Centrifugal speed-sensing device triggering elevator safety gear upon detecting overspeed.
The overspeed governor is a speed-sensing device connected to the car by a governor rope that triggers safety gear at overspeed. It mechanically trips when centrifugal force from the spinning sheave overcomes the restraining spring at the tripping speed.
