Horizontal clearance between car sill and landing sill, minimized for safety.
The sill gap is the horizontal clearance between the elevator car sill and the hoistway door sill at each landing. This gap must be minimized to prevent objects or body parts from entering the hoistway while allowing sufficient clearance for car movement and sway.
